The following information sites multiple portions of the DuraSpace DuraCloud documentation that are applicable to the TDL DuraCloud implementation.

For the complete DuraCloud documentation site, please see https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DURACLOUD/DuraCloud. Note that TDL's functionality differs in some areas.

  1. The member signs DP Services contract and chooses storage option(s). If DPN user, proceed to #2.
  2. SysAdmin or Software Engineer sets up new AWS space in DuraCloud@TDL.
    1. Go to Accounts in Management Console https://duracloud-mc.tdl.org
    2. Account name, organization and department can all be the name of the institution (not in MD anyway)
    3. Prepare space using the following format for the institutional subdomain: https://member-dcloud.tdl.org/
    4. Choose primary storage provider, also others if needed. (note that only Primary allows creation of spaces)
    5. Create AWS account for each storage provider (requires credit card and DevOps lead support)
  3. Member user goes to https://duracloud-mc.tdl.org to create a profile and reports username to TDL helpdesk.
    1. SysAdmin or Software Engineer goes to Manage Users in Management Console
    2. Assign permissions and add all TDL users to the account as administrators or root when needed
  4. TDL gives user permissions in their space - user or admin*
  5. Member user installs and sets up Sync Tool. Instructions from DuraCloud here: https://wiki.duraspacelyrasis.org/display/DURACLOUDDOC/DuraCloud+Sync+Tool
  6. Member consults with DP services manager to set up folders for syncing and select appropriate Sync Tool settings. TDL-specific guidance is here: Setting up the Sync Tool

*It appears that only Only ROOT users can assign Owner and Root status and edit some parts of the MC. Administrators can set user accounts to either user or administrator.  In general, user roles (owner/admin/user/root) not well defined by DuraSpace community, but here is some information provided on the DuraSpace wiki in their guide:

  • Administrators can create and delete spaces, create groups of users, and implement access controls at the space level
  • Users can view and manage content in DuraCloud. The web interface offers access to all storage system capabilities, including space and content creation, updates, and deletion. It provides access to graphical depictions of the information contained in the storage reports and allows for bulk deletion of spaces and content items and for user account administration. The interface also allows an authorized user to initiate a snapshot to send to Chronopolis or DPN for storage.
