What version of DSpace will our repository be upgraded to?
Version 7.6
When will my repository be upgraded?
Visit DSpace 7 Upgrades Schedule to view the order of upgrades for Member Repositories. Please note that the dates listed are highly tentative. TDL will notify institutions several weeks in advance of their proposed upgrade dates to confirm the week of the upgrade, and will keep members updated if postponement is necessary.
What is the upgrade process?
On the morning of your scheduled upgrade, TDL will generate a helpdesk ticket to track work and communicate with you throughout the upgrade.
Around noon on the day scheduled for your upgrade, TDL’s software engineer will restrict sessions on your DSpace repository, meaning nobody will be able to log in and add or change content. (Folks will still be able to browse the site and download unrestricted files.)
TDL will begin migrating migrate all of your content over to the a new DSpace 7 staging instance set up prior to the scheduled upgrade date that include theme and other customizations for your repository. TDL will point your production URL to the new DSpace 7 site. That process will be done sometime late in the morning on the following day.
At this point, TDL will contact you and ask you to test login via Shibboleth and to test/review the new site.
When you approve the new site, TDL will point your production URL to the new DSpace 7 site.
You will want to make sure that Vireo is set up properly to deposit to the right location in the new DSpace (see SWORD deposit section below). Following the completion of the upgrade, you need to take the following steps:
Update deposit location(s) in Vireo.
Notify any external harvesters of the new OAI endpoint.
What should I test in our new DSpace 7?
We do not have a formal testing plan, but want you to make sure you can log in, that all your content appears to be there, and nothing is obviously broken.
...
Review the Communities & Collections list in the new repository to make sure everything is there.
Browse anonymously in the new repository.
View and download items anonymously.
Check that any known restricted collections or items remain restricted to anonymous users.
Log in via your institutional credentials.
Test submission workflow far enough to make sure your Deposit License is correct (you don't need to actually complete the submission).
Review the repository theme and let us know if you would like to see changes or see anything amiss.
What is the OAI endpoint URL?
The OAI endpoint URL for external harvesters changes with the repository’s upgrade to DSpace 7. The old (version 6) URL was: [base URL]/oai/request?verb=Identify (e.g. https://asu-ir.tdl.org/oai/request?verb=Identify).
The new (version 7.x) URL is: [base URL]/server/oai/request?verb=Identify (e.g. https://asu-ir.tdl.org/server/oai/request?verb=Identify
What is the SWORD deposit location URL for Vireo?
The SWORD deposit location URL for Vireo has changed with the upgrade to version 7.6. The pattern for the SWORD service document has changed slightly in v7, from HTTP://[HOSTNAME]/[SWORD-WEBAPP]/SERVICEDOCUMENT to HTTP://[HOSTNAME]/server/[SWORD-WEBAPP]/SERVICEDOCUMENT.
Where can I learn more about DSpace 7?
The TDL DSpace 7 Upgrades Task Force and TDL Digital Librarian Ima Oduok have developed several resources for learning more about DSpace 7:
Additionally, the global DSpace Program housed at Lyrasis has developed technical and end user documentation for DSpace 7:
Where can I test DSpace 7 outside of my production repository?
TDL members can use TDL’s DSpace 7 demo site for testing and training. See DSpace 7 Demo.
