Testing in the Demo site

Most TDL DSpace User Group members will want to test in the DSpace 7 UI Demo site (https://test-ir.tdl.org/).

To do so, you’ll need to Demo Repository

TDL members may set up a user account and then begin testing. Please read the sections below about how to set up an Administrator account and what to expect in the Demo sitesto test and train in the site.

How to set up a user account

Register an account. Go to https://testtraining-irir7.tdl.org/ and click Login in the upper right corner of the screen. Then click “New User? Click here to register.” and provide your email address. You’ll have to verify your email and then create a password.

Ask TDL to make you an Admin in the site. Email the TDL Helpdesk at support@tdl.org and let us know you’ve created an account in the DSpace 7 Demo site and would like to be made an Administrator.

What to expect in the Demo site

DSpace 7 is being released over several months in a staged Beta release process with the following goals:

  • Individual Betas will not be "feature complete". Instead, each Beta release will layer additional features on the previous Beta.

  • Community members are encouraged to test each Beta and report back any issues so that they can be resolved in a subsequent Beta (prior to the final 7.0 release)

  • Some lower priority features may be delayed for 7.1 or 7.2.

Remember: The DSpace 7 Demo site is not a “feature complete” DSpace installation, so keep in mind that not every feature that you would expect in a fully functional repository will be working yet.

Where a feature is not yet available, developers have greyed out / disabled the link in the user interface.  All missing features will be implemented prior to the final release of 7.0.

Read more about which features are available in the current beta release (and what’s coming in future betas) in the LYRASIS DSpace wiki HERE.

As of November 2020, the DSpace demo site is in DSpace 7 Beta 4.

Reporting Bugs

If you find something that’s not working correctly or behaving weirdly in the site, you can submit those as bug reports directly to the DSpace programmers via GitHub. There is a template in place for bugs and another for feature requests, and those automatically get moved to the DSpace triage board: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/new/choose
