The Batch Import process can be used to upload anything to DSpace and is particularly useful when you have more than a handful of items. Though the batch load process saves a lot of time that you would otherwise spend manually uploading items one-by-one using the submission form in DSpace, it still requires time and attention to detail to prep the files correctly.

In order to batch ingest items, items and associated metadata must be bundled in the DSpace Simple Archive Format (SAF). Many DSpace users use the SAF Creator tool to automate this “bundling process.” For instructions on using the SAF Creator refer to this Prepping batch for import document.
NOTE: DSpace has a configuration setting that limits both the maximum individual bitstream file size, and the total size of a batch. By default these may be as low as 256Mb, but TDL DSpaces currently have it set to 4Gb.
