Most EPeople in a TDL-hosted repository are automatically created when a user affiliated with the home institution logs in via Shibboleth using their campus credentials.
However, Repository Administrators may need to create EPerson accounts and grant privileges to users not affiliated with the university.
Please note:
To add a user through this method, you will need to have the user’s email address.
The user will be required to reset their password in order to complete the setup.
Add an EPerson
To add a new EPerson, you will need the e-mail address of the user you wish to add.
Login as a Repository Administrator.
Go to Access Control => People.
Click Add E-Person.
You will see the Create EPerson form, shown below. Enter the user’s first and last name and email address, and make sure the “Can log in” box is checked. Click “Create.”
Typically, you should not check the “Requires certificate” checkbox. This feature is not supported.
Final Steps: New User Password Creation
After you have created the EPerson, the new user will need to create a password to be able to log in. You can have them do so in one of two ways.
Method #1: Instruct user to use the “Forgot password” mechanism to create a password for their new account.
User should go to the repository homepage and click “Log in,” then on “Have you forgotten your password?” This will take them to the Login reset page.
User should enter the email address used by the Repository Administrator in creating the new EPerson account and click “Save.”
A unique registration link will be sent via email to the user, with instructions for continuing the password reset process.
Method #2: Repository Administrator generates the Reset Password process.
Go to Access Control => People.
Search for the relevant EPerson and click the pencil icon to edit.
On the Edit EPerson screen, click “Reset password.”
A unique registration link will be sent via email to the user, with instructions for continuing the password reset process.
