OJS 3.4.0-9 upgrade information

July 2025 Announcement

Beginning around July 21, Texas Digital Library will upgrade its hosted Open Access journals to Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3.4.0-9. At the same time, TDL will migrate each site into a new hosting environment with an updated operating system. This is a very minor version upgrade of OJS; users will not see any new features or changes in the OJS user interface, though the new version does have several bug fixes. The primary reason for this upgrade is moving TDL’s journal sites to an updated underlying operating system.

What you should know right now:

• TDL will perform these upgrades over the remainder of the summer, starting around July 21 and going through the end of August. The project to upgrade all sites will take several weeks. A tentative schedule of upgrades is below; look for your sponsoring institutions to see the tentative day(s) on which your site may be upgraded.

• TDL will notify a journal’s main contacts when it is the journal’s turn to be upgraded, and let them know their “maintenance window” – a period of several hours when the site will not be available. Please note that the notification may come on the day on which the upgrade will be performed.

• We will bring down the journal site during the maintenance window to avoid missing any changes to the site during the migration (for example, we don’t want anyone to make a manuscript submission to the site while the migration is on-going.)

• During the maintenance window, if a user comes to the site, they will see a page that lets them know that the site is down for maintenance.

Because of the number of sites hosted by TDL and other factors, we cannot guarantee a specific date for any site’s upgrade. The Tentative Schedule below can provide an estimated time based on your journal’s sponsoring institution. These dates should be considered highly tentative.
