As an organization operating under the organizational sponsorship of the University of Texas at Austin, Texas Digital Library and its hosted applications (including the Texas Data Repository) strive to comply with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) 206.70 as set forth in the University of Texas Web Accessibility Policy (https://tech.utexas.edu/).

The Texas Data Repository relies on open source research data repository software (the Dataverse Project). The development of the software is led by Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) at Harvard University, and supported by the Global Dataverse Community Consortium (GDCC). TDL engages with the Dataverse Project development team and financially supports the GDCC on behalf of its members, helping to guide on-going improvements to the Dataverse Project software, including improvements to accessibility compliance.

The Dataverse Project aims to improve the user experience for those with disabilities, and is in the process of following the recommendations of the Harvard University Digital Accessibility Policy, which use the Worldwide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1, Level AA Conformance (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) as the standard. Per the Dataverse Project’s development guidelines, developers who contribute front-end UI code are responsible for understanding the requirements of this standard and the tools and methods for securing conformance with it.”

The Dataverse Frontend repository is an initiative undertaken to modernize the UI and design of the Dataverse Project. One of its stated goals is to give priority and transparency to coding and design to support Harvard University's commitment to ensuring the highest standards for Accessibility Compliance.” The “accessibility first” Dataverse Frontend is currently in beta and under active development. TDR’s roadmap for the Texas Data Repository includes upgrading to the Dataverse Frontend after a stable release is available, and in alignment with TDL’s typical once-yearly upgrade cycle.
