About TXHub
TXHub is the DPLA Service Hub of Texas, providing metadata for thousands of cultural heritage item to the Digital Public Library of America. DPLA makes those items, and millions of others across the country, discoverable through https://dp.la portal and its open API.
TXHub consists of two main components: the TDL DPLA Aggregation Service, operated by the Texas Digital Library, and the Portal to Texas History, maintained by the University of North Texas. Together, these two repositories contribute cultural heritage metadata from library, museum, and other institutional collections from all over Texas to the Digital Public Library of America.
The TDL DPLA Aggregation Service is a metadata aggregator that harvests metadata only from participating institutions' cultural heritage repositories. These repositories may be self-hosted, hosted by Texas Digital Library, or hosted by another third party. The Portal to Texas History is a repository hosted by UNT that contains digital objects (the images, videos, and documents themselves) along with associated metadata from the collections of hundreds of partner institutions around the state. The Portal also provides support services such as digitization and metadata creation for its partners.
Initial support for the development of TXHub came from a 2016 Library Cooperation Grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the project “Development of a Statewide Aggregation Service for Texas Digital Collections.” For more information about the 2016 library cooperation grant, go here.
These pages will refer primarily to the TDL DPLA Aggregation Service, the aggregation component of TXHub in Texas. For more information about the Portal to Texas History and becoming a Portal partner, go here.
