About the GIS Interest Group

The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Interest Group gathers both experts and newcomers to the field of GIS. Founded in 2020 by Michael Shensky (UT-Austin), the group ratified a charter and formed several subcommittees to work collaboratively on projects.

Survey & Outreach Subcommittee

Chair 2024: Kate Carter, University of Houston

  • Creates and maintains a survey and dashboard of the GIS environment in Texas academic libraries and develops outreach strategies to assist with recruiting new members

Data Collaboration Subcommittee

Chair 2024: Alex Marden, UT-Austin and Michael Shensky, UT-Austin

  • Coordinates geospatial data sharing initiatives among TDL member institutions

Events & Social Planning Subcommittee

Chair 2024: Josh Been, Baylor University

  • Organizes regular GIS events (webinars, GIS Day events, social events, etc.)

The group shares updates and information about training and events at our monthly meetings and through the GIS Interest Group list.
