About the GIS Interest Group
The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Interest Group gathers both experts and newcomers to the field of GIS. Founded in 2020 by Michael Shensky (UT-Austin), the group ratified a charter and formed several subcommittees to work collaboratively on projects.
Monthly meetings occur on the fourth Friday of each month from 2-3 PM (CST). The reoccurring Zoom link can be accessed here.
Survey & Outreach Subcommittee
Chair 2024-2025: Kate Carter, University of Houston
Creates and maintains a survey and dashboard of the GIS environment in Texas academic libraries and develops outreach strategies to assist with recruiting new members
Data Collaboration Subcommittee
Chair 2024-2025: Alex Marden, UT-Austin
Coordinates geospatial data sharing initiatives among TDL member institutions
Events & Social Planning Subcommittee
Chair 2024-2025: Kristina Claunch, Sam Houston State University
Organizes regular GIS events (webinars, GIS Day events, social events, etc.)
