2018 Vireo User Group Meeting

Greetings Vireo Users Group,

We had over a dozen members attend the Vireo Users Group meeting during the 2018 Texas Conference on Digital Libraries in Austin, Texas. The main topic was development of Vireo 4. At the time Stephanie had almost completed reviewing the great feedback from beta testing and logged a number bugs and issues in GitHub for future development.

Now the review is complete and as a result of the beta testing, the developers were able to make a much more stable system and have already fixed several bugs. The new code is loaded on Texas Digital Library server and we are excited to announce that Vireo 4 will be open throughout the summer for testing and review by Vireo Users Group members. Access information will be sent to the listserv soon.

We also announced that the Texas Digital Library expected to have a new developer on staff this summer, and now they do. Frank Smutniak will help with the completion and wrap up of Vireo 4.

Finally, we announced that the Steering Committee will be considering a development plan to begin in the fall and modeled after DSpace Community Sprints.

Since the meeting at TCDL, Texas A&M and Texas Tech have been working on squashing bugs in the last couple of weeks and have made a lot of progress. In addition we are welcoming a new TDL ex-officio member of the Steering Committee, Courtney Mumma. She is the Deputy Director at TDL and after a period of transition, she will take on Kristi Park’s role in the Steering Committee.

Stay tuned for more information on the progress of development and how to access the Vireo 4 testing site.

Thank you,

Stephanie Larrison
