ProQuest Settings

Purpose

This section is related to the ProQuest functionality.  Vireo includes an export format for sending theses and dissertations to ProQuest via FTP.  By using the Vireo ProQuest export format, universities can bypass any costs of publishing ETDs with ProQuest. These sections and the ProQuest Embargo must be configured in order to complete the export correctly. Other fields must be configured as well, so please consult the /wiki/spaces/VUG/pages/826376224 separately for full information about exporting ETDs from Vireo to ProQuest.

Setting options

ProQuest Institution Code: The ProQuest Institution Code must be added in the Application Settings of the Administrative interface of Vireo. This code is a ProQuest-supplied code that identifies the institution associated with all submissions coming from the institution. The ProQuest Institution Code can be obtained from ProQuest or (for TDL member institutions) from the Texas Digital Library.

Indexed By Search Engines: If enabled, all submissions to the ProQuest catalog will have citation information indexed by third parties (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing).

ProQuest License Agreement:   Submission of ETDs to ProQuest requires a separate license in addition to a license that allows publication of the thesis or dissertation to an institutional repository or to the Texas Digital Library.  The ProQuest License Agreement can be edited to add notes about the institution’s policy on submission to ProQuest or to provide other directions. The language of the license should never be changed without written permission from ProQuest.

Degree Codes: The degree code is a ProQuest-supplied code for each degree an institution offers. ProQuest will supply a list of degrees that have been received from the university.  Users can inform ProQuest if additional degrees need to be added. (For TDL members, these codes will be supplied by TDL.)  Only users with the Administrator role can view and edit Degree Codes.

Every degree created in the DEGREES section of Workflow Management settings will appear in this area.  Add codes to only those degrees which are submitted to ProQuest.

Other ProQuest Settings

Note that ProQuest embargoes are maintained in the EMBARGO TYPES section of Workflow Management settings.

Institutions which do not require or support submission to ProQuest would disable and hide the ProQuest Emgargos field in DOCUMENT INFORMATION workflow step and the ProQuest Publication field in the LICENSE AGREEMENT workflow step of applicable workflows.  See MANAGE WORKFLOW and FIELD PROFILES for additional information.

Institutions which submit to ProQuest should take note of these Field Profile settings which are not accessible from the Workflow Management tab.  The recommended Field Profile settings for ProQuest Publication include Required = Yes; Flagged = Yes; Logged = Yes.

The Advanced settings for the ProQuest Publication Field Profile are set up by default.  Do not edit the Metadata Key or the Input Type.
