Embargo Types
The Embargo Type section lets users create and define embargo policies, from which students can choose when submitting their theses or dissertations. There are two types of embargoes provided; Default Embargoes for the institution and ProQuest embargoes for ProQuest submissions.
Default Embargoes
Default Embargoes include None, Journal Hold (1 year), Patent Hold (2 years) and Other Embargo Period (indefinite time period). Institutions may choose not to use any of these embargo types and create their own, or may edit the name and description of the existing embargoes. Use caution if Vireo submissions have been migrated from an earlier version.
Create new embargo types
- Click ADD DEFAULT EMBARGO and enter information about the embargo policy, including:
- Name of the embargo policy (i.e. “3 year delay”)
- Description of the policy
- Whether or not the option will be displayed to students
- Whether the embargo policy is for a determinate or indeterminate length of time
- The duration of the embargo (if determinate).
- Click CREATE to save the new embargo policy.
Delete embargo types
- Click EDIT next to the embargo name then select DELETE.
- Note: If an embargo is currently in use, the system will not allow a deletion. Choose not to display it instead.
Reorder embargo types
In the list of Available Embargo types, drag and drop the embargo type rows into the desired order. The changes will save automatically.
ProQuest Embargoes
If the institution does not make submissions to ProQuest, change the Display setting of each embargo to No.
ProQuest Embargo options include 6-month Journal Hold, 1-year Journal Hold, 2-year Journal Hold, and Flexible/Delayed Release Embargo Period.
