Batch Operations

Batch Import and Export of Collections

Batch Export Collection : Export items and metadata for a Collection as a zip file.

Batch Import Collection or Items : Import multiple items into DSpace as a batch. See also Prepping batch for import.

Batch Metadata Editing

To edit metadata for multiple items (either for an entire Community or Collection):

  1. Export Metadata using the Batch Export Metadata tools to download a spreadsheet with the metadata for the desired Collection or Community.

  2. Edit metadata as desired in the spreadsheet and save.

  3. Import the updated metadata using the edited spreadsheet, using the Batch Import Metadata tools.

Note: Prior to re-import of the metadata CSV file, you may delete unnecessary (i.e. unchanged) columns from the spreadsheet. It is generally a good idea, in fact, to delete any columns for which you made no changes, in order to avoid including accidental edits.

The only columns that must be included are (a) the “id” column that includes the item’s unique identifier and (b) the column(s) that have metadata that you made changes to.

Use “Batch Metadata Export” and “Batch Metadata Import” to conduct batch editing.

Export produces a CSV file with Collection metadata.

Repository Manager edits relevant metadata and reuploads updated CSV file to DSpace.
